Hub Director David Barber presenting at a UCL AI Centre event

We are excited to celebrate the launch of our Hub, a collaboration between academia and industry. We bring together experts in Generative AI from these sectors, to collaborate on projects covering diverse aspects and applications of Generative AI: Multimodal Models, Responsible AI, Automation, Biology, Molecules, Healthcare and Methodology.

Our academic researchers come from some of the UK’s leading universities in AI research. Individually and through their existing collaborations, these institutions are already driving innovation and knowledge transfer, leading to many technological advancements. Their work has helped to launch successful spinouts such as Synthesia, Humanloop, Satalia, Ångström AI, Odin Vision and Signapse.

For our industry partners - both existing and future ones - our launch event offers an opportunity to foster partnerships that will explore impactful advancements in Generative AI. The presentations and speakers you will hear from will highlight ways you can get involved and collaborate with our research areas. The announcement of the government’s AI Opportunities action plan in January signalled the UK’s ambition to shape the AI revolution and we will play a significant role in that. Increasingly AI is no longer just a purely academic research area and the links with industry are vital to scale up impact and tackle more significant challenges.

Additional national level initiatives such as large-scale compute systems and special investment zones will soon become operational, and the Hub will be at the heart of taking advantage of these opportunities with our partners.

Some of you have been amongst our strongest supporters and we are delighted to be able to welcome you to celebrate the launch of the Hub. If this is your first connection with the Hub, we hope that the day will help you reflect on what Generative AI means for you and how you can bring it into your work. We believe we can kickstart a range of collaborations that will result in new Generative AI enterprises, partnerships, and technologies that work better for society. We invite you and your colleagues to remain part of this and we would love to hear more about your hopes for these technologies.

By working together, we can make an impact that is bigger than any of us could deliver on our own leading to greater technical breakthroughs and improved economic and societal benefits. Finally, none of the Hub's activities would be possible without the invaluable support of our eight university partners and our funder EPSRC. Additionally, we would like to extend our thanks to ICEED for generously sponsoring our launch.
